Decks & Learning
Presented in twenty eight sessions over the course of fourteen weeks, COMM124: Media, Messages and Society encouraged students to delve into the broad world of communications theory. Focusing on a different theme each week, each session gave participants an overview of theorists who had written about each topic. With themes ranging from sharing and copying to celebrity and culture, this foundation course was compulsory for communications majors at Simmons, but became well-attended by those outside of the discipline as well.
The above slide deck is presented as a video to showcase the amount of embedded content that I was able to utilize. Please note that due to potential copyright restrictions, I have not shown full videos in this content.
During my eighteen months in the Student Affairs Division at Emerson College, part of my role was organizing content for the quarterly all-hands meeting. As my work progressed, we implemented new design factors to support both presenters and audiences — new clarity around expectations for accessibility, breaks and standing periods.
All of this helped to create better communication around these meetings. An additional piece of communication was added in mid-2025 at the beginning of the academic year with a pre- and post-meeting email. The pre-email outlined guest speakers, agenda items, and confirmed location and time. The post-email contained details of the slide deck (including slides used by guests) as well as any post-meeting follow up that was required.
Delivered over the course of a two-day retreat for leaders within the Student Affairs Division, this workshop encouraged participants to think in a more structured way about deliverables related to communication.
